Rain Sensor & does my car have one – CPR Auto Glass Repair

Rain Sensor Rain Sensor, does my car have it?

One of the problems during heavy rains is you end up adjusting your wipers to maximize visual range on your windshield. New cars are now equipped with rain sensors. Rain sensor technology is now available for vehicles to make visibility easier for drivers during rainstorms. Basically, a sensor can detect precipitation from the windshield, and mechanically turns on the wipers as the rain begins. Now you may be asking the question, does my car have a rain sensor?

The rain sensor can be found behind the rear view mirror. Some are found on the wipers. The technology uses optical detection or sensing, analog signal processing and a control algorithm during operation or when the rain or snow hits the windshield. When there is an interruption to the infrared system (i.e. rain or snow hitting the windshield), the analog technology senses this action, and depending on the drops or occurrence of rainfall or snowfall, the system will opt for the speed that’s fit to the condition. The sensors are programmable to best suit the driver when rain or snow is detected. He/she can delay the reaction of the wipers. This hands-free system gives extra convenience to the driver during rainstorms or snowfall.

Benefits of Rain Sensor

First of all, the rain sensor will keep you from being distracted from adjusting your wipers every time the downpour gets hard then becomes a drizzle then back to downpour again. Here are the added benefits of having a rain sensor in your car:

  • Since you won’t be distracted, you can devote your focus on the road, that will keep you safer.
  • It improves visibility and line of sight of the road as it ensures you have a clear windshield whether it’s a drizzle or a downpour.
  • Rain sensors are repairable or easily replaceable when the windshield gets damaged.

Drivers used to the rain sensors do not want to drive vehicles without it. It has become a necessity for extra safety especially for long distance driving. Keeping focus on the road during a rainstorm is difficult and dangerous, the sensors conveniently and safely keep your attention on the road, with better visibility.

Check Your Car For The Rain Sensor

You can check if you have a rain sensor system in your car. First, if your wipers automatically turn on when raindrops come in contact with the windshield then you have a sensor. You can also check by looking from the outside – behind the rear view mirror. If you see a strip of lens or film that faces the outside that is adjoining your light sensor.

Rain sensors bring safety and convenience to another level for drivers. Having this in your car may save you, your loved ones and other people from unnecessary and dangerous accidents on the road.
